A mentoring program that takes the whole young man seriously.
Young Men of Distinction is Delta Xi Lambda's flagship mentoring program, designed to develop Orlando-area young men across four dimensions: academic achievement, leadership, social awareness, and personal responsibility.
Brothers of Delta Xi Lambda serve as mentors, coaches, and role models throughout the school year. They show up not just to teach, but to demonstrate what it looks like to be a man of character in this community.
Four dimensions. One young man.
YMOD does not treat a young man as a grade point average or a test score. It treats him as someone becoming an adult, and builds the four dimensions that shape that adult.
Academic development
Goal setting, career exploration, college preparation, and study skills through tutoring. We build the habits that carry students from the classroom into a career.
Leadership development
Annual leadership conferences, entrepreneurship workshops, public speaking training, and political consciousness. We teach young men how to lead before they have to.
Social development
Diverse social settings, historical perspectives, etiquette training, current events, leisure activities, and team building. We expand their world.
Personal development
Communication skills, conflict resolution, self-discipline, time management, health and hygiene, and sex education delivered through action and scenario learning. We build the whole person.
Is your young man ready?
YMOD is open to young men in the Orlando area who are ready to invest in themselves. Participants engage in monthly modules, social activities, fundraisers, and community service throughout the program year. Graduates are also eligible for scholarships through the I.S. Hankins–F.A. Johnson Education Foundation.
